Russia, is the largest country in the world, One-tenth of all the land of the world is occupied by Russia. The Russian landscape varies from deserts to frozen beaches, from high mountains to vast swamps. It covers 11 time zones on two continents (Europe and Asia) and has beaches in three oceans (Arctic, Atlantic and Pacific). Much of Russia consists of rolling plains without trees, called steppes. Siberia, which occupies three -fourths of Russia, is dominated by vast pine forests called the Taigas.
Russia has about 100,000 rivers, including some of the longest and most powerful in the world. There are also many lakes including two of the largest lakes in Europe, Onega and Ladoga. Lake Baikal in Siberia has more water than any other lake in the world.
