Russian troops forced pulled out of eastern city of Lyman
Russia has withdrawn its troops from the strategic Ukrainian city of Lyman, in what is seen as a significant blow to its campaign in the east.
Russia’s defense ministry said thousands of soldiers in the city had to retreat amid fears of encirclement.

Recapturing Lyman is of strategic importance to Ukraine.
The city was used by Russia as a logistics center, and could give Ukrainian troops in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions access to greater territory.
Video footage shared online showed Ukrainian soldiers waving their national flag on the outskirts of the city.
Although blue and yellow were flying again in Lyman, there was “still” fighting going on, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening video address.
However, he did not give more information than this.
The setback on the battlefield prompted Chechen leader and staunch Moscow ally, Ramzan Kadyrov, to remark that Russia should consider using low-yield nuclear weapons in the event of such a defeat.

Lyman is in Donetsk – one of four partially occupied Ukrainian territories that Russia declared it was occupying on Friday. Ukraine and its Western allies have dismissed the move as illegal land grabbing.
An adviser to Ukraine’s defense minister previously told the BBC that the recent advance around Lyman – in the days after the intense fighting – represented “considerable success”.
Yurik Sak said, Russian fighters were given the chance to surrender, and would face better treatment as prisoners of war than the Russian military leadership.
Shortly after, the Kremlin stated that it was withdrawing its forces from the city, using the name of its Soviet-era Krasny (red) Lyman, acknowledging that the Ukrainians had “significant superiority in forces in the area”. ” Was.
Military analysts say the war in Kyiv is currently on pace, and has vowed to proceed with a counter-offensive to reclaim all occupied territories.
In a speech on Friday, Mr Zelensky said efforts to “liberate our entire land” would serve as proof that international law cannot be violated.
